ELEPHANT

Elephants are generally viewed as robust animals which have a high survival rate. However, elephants are sensitive to temperature changes, especially calves, which subjects them to suffer under the effects of climate change.

Climate change has huge effects on food resources of elephants. As the temperature increases, plants dry out and die off. Therefore, elephants face a shortage of food supply. A higher temperature also leads to a shortage of water, which is vital to elephant survival. Each elephant consumes 50 gallons of water on average day. Water is also used to bathe since elephants don’t sweat and rely on water to cool them down. During the bath, elephants can also wash away parasites. If there is not enough water for elephants, elephants face problems of overheating and illness.
